Abstract

In this paper, I intend to reflect how uses of new technologies of communication can transform the interactions happened in the space of the city. For that, I did virtual and urban ethnography during five months into a group of immigrants from North-eastern of Brazil who lives in Rio de Janeiro city, in South-eastern of the country. There are about 80 people who are organized through an online group on WhatsApp, mobilizing themselves to many events around the city, like private parties, concert houses and soccer matches and, in special, visits to the São Cristóvão Fair, a space that attracts tourists, visitors in general and, in particular, communities of North-eastern people that live in Rio de Janeiro. The identity component is enhanced to the extent that the ties are strengthened.
