Information about the CaTaC'16 venue


Its history and location make London a place of multicultural convergence and an important hub for international trade and financial services in Europe and the world.

London has the greatest concentration of major attractions in Britain and boasts four World Heritage Sites. Over two hundred attractions are free to enter. You can choose from top attractions like the British Airways London Eye or the Tower of London, join a tour or perhaps relax in one of the capital’s beautiful parks and gardens.

The proposed conference venue, the University of West London, was ranked by The Guardian in 2013 as the top modern university in London. It hosts the Centre for Internationalisation and Usability, whose staff will contribute to ICIC with a wealth of experience and knowledge from their research and industrial activities. UWL conveniently located between London’s main airport (Heathrow) and the London city centre in West London in the cosmopolitan suburb of Ealing, where you can find a good (multicultural!) choice of restaurants, pubs and entertainment.  However, if you wish to venture further afield, UWL is, just 20 - 30 minutes on the Underground from central London, where you'll find a huge range of theatres, cinemas, clubs, bars, and other entertainment.


Heathrow Airport is the closest airport (about 15 miles away) and it is easily accessible by car or via the Heathrow Connect train service in around 30 minutes.  However, London has number of alternative airports (Gatwick, Luton, Stansted), all of which are serviced by the budget airlines and can offer significant savings for domestic and European flights.

The Ealing campus is well served for public transport with 3 London Underground stations within easy walking distance.  In addition, you are only a 10 minute walk from the Ealing Broadway mainline station, which is also served by the No. 65 bus

If you are travelling by car, the St Mary's Road, Ealing site lies on the B455 which runs between the A4 and A4020 (Uxbridge Road).; the M4 motorway is a few minutes' drive away from Ealing (junction 2), and the A40, M40 and M25 are easily accessible


A number of options are available such as a tour of rare local breweries including ale tasting or a visit to the grand and beautiful Pitzhanger Manor House at the entrance of Walpole Park, a grade 1 listed building which also has free art exhibitions continuously throughout the year. Ealing Studios, the oldest continuously working film studio in the world, is just next door.

The London College of Music, part of the UWL, is the largest specialist music and performing arts institution in the UK and offer a variety of different styles of song, dance and music.


Ealing has a various of options for going shopping.  There are a number of busy shopping districts and centres within walking distance of St Mary’s Road. There are also a number of local open markets where different types of items can be found, e.g. antiques, rare ingredients, clothes, etc. The largest inner city shopping mall in Europe, Westfield, is only a couple of tube stations away!
